Un anno contro la fibromialgia

La Settimana europea contro la fibromialgia (20-26 ottobre), promossa dalla European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC) ha aperto l’anno dedicato a questa complessa patologia.
L’EFIC concentrerà nel periodo compreso tra ottobre 2008 e ottobre 2009 numerose iniziative finalizzate a migliorare la comprensione e l’analisi delle difficoltà che i pazienti incontrano nell’ottenere cure appropriate e ad incoraggiare studi e ricerche su specifici aspetti della fibromialgia. È infatti necessaria una maggiore informazione sulla patologia, così come una maggiore consapevolezza delle dimensioni del problema.

L’EFIC, grazie alla collaborazione dei propri ‘chapters’ (sezioni) attivi nelle nazioni europee, si impegna ad acquisire il maggior numero possibile di dati sulle effettive dimensioni del problema, attraverso la compilazione di un questionario mirato e la stesura di rapporti dettagliati. Alcuni dati al momento disponibili indicano che in Francia il 2% della popolazione soffre di sindrome fibromialgica, in Spagna il 4%, mentre in Italia si valuta che siano colpite almeno 1.500.000/2.000.000 persone.

L’Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Dolore parteciperà attivamente a questa campagna di sensibilizzazione e ricerca.
